Deburring
Deburring is an important operation and results in operationally safe and visually appealing products.
During cutting or punching, sharp edges and burrs sometimes occur. Removing or rounding them can significantly improve the functionality, quality and aesthetics of your sheet metal.

Edge breaking
Whereas deburring generally refers to removing all kinds of burrs created during metalworking, edge breaking focuses specifically on rounding sharp edges.
High-quality technology
At Contour, we benefit from three dedicated Lissmac machines for treating different types of sheet material: steel, stainless steel and aluminum. This way we prevent corrosion and keep our materials free of material contamination.
Our Lissmac machines can both break edges and finish the surface of the sheet. They do this on both sides at the same time, so your product is fully deburred in a single pass. This single-pass approach streamlines the deburring and edge breaking process, which increases efficiency and production capacity.
Why deburr?
Why would you choose deburring or edge breaking?
- Safety: Removing burrs and rounding sharp edges reduces the risk of cuts and injuries, and so improves the safety of the finished product.
- Improved adhesion: Applying a grinding direction gives better adhesion of applied coatings, such as paint or powder coating.
- Aesthetics: Removing burrs, rounding edges and applying a grinding direction produces a smooth and consistent surface that looks better.

Alternative to the deburring machine
-
An alternative to our Lissmac machines is to use our punch-laser combination for edge breaking and ball deburring.
After the punching or cutting process, this machine “rolls off” the entire contour on both sides, so sharp edges disappear. This process minimizes the number of workstations the product has to pass, which saves time and cost.
Please note, however, that compared to the Lissmac machine, the tooling used in ball deburring does not always reach the smallest corners of the sheet metal. This method also does not allow finishing the surface with a grinding operation. It only processes the sharp edges of the sheet metal.
