Repetitive tasks can be automated, both in physical production and in the supporting ERP and CAD/CAM processes.
Starting from that principle, our colleague Daniel wrote a converter for sheet metal machine programs (in .NET C#). This tool can move the roughly 15,000 CNC bending programs in our archive to another machine in just a few mouse clicks. It comes with a 3D view in the tool and conversion of the 3D models in the bending program. This saves our colleagues a lot of time and lets us spread the work well across the machines.
During automation projects like this, our colleagues gain experience with programming and mechatronics. At the same time, we build detailed knowledge of the machines we work with every day. That way we get the best out of our people and resources, and we make room for talent, interests and creativity. For Daniel this was a challenging project that he enjoyed working on.
